Four years ago I was invited to the Hilton Bonnet Creek for the very first Cupcake Lovers Weekend. I fell in love with the resort and all of the sweet treats doled out that weekend and I’ve been back every year since. Why wouldn’t I? The weekend revolves around perfectly portioned pastries, pool time and cocktails, so Saturday morning I grabbed my bathing suit and made the one hour drive over to the resort.
The Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek is nestled right inside the gates of the Walt Disney World Resort. Rooms there are competitively priced but we had gotten a wicked good rate when they had their “$99 Flash Sale“. I got to the resort around 11am and my room was already ready.
I slipped on my swim suit and headed down to the lazy river lagoon pool. I wanted to catch some rays before the summer storms they had been predicting moved in.
As soon as I had selected a shaded lounge chair I was offered a mini cupcake sampler by one of the friendly pool attendants.
I had just enough time to order a Hibiscus Margarita and a Chicken Quesadilla from Beech, the poolside eatery before the dark clouds started rolling in. I didn’t want to miss the BIG cupcake reveal at 2:30pm so I headed back inside the resort to escape the rain.
Every year the team at the Hilton spends hours and hours baking cupcakes for guests to enjoy. See this large cupcake? Shelves under the white wrapper house hundreds of whimsical regular size cupcakes and after the BIG reveal guests are offered as many complementary cupcakes as they can eat.
Immediately after the reveal it was time to belly up to the lobby bar Sena to sample some of the weekend-exclusive Cupcake Cocktails. My favorite was this Banana Cream Pie Cupcake Martini.
We also sampled a few of the savory cupcakes at the bar which are a steal at only $6. This one was a savory Chicken and Waffles Cupcake.
After having sweet, savory and “adults-only” cupcakes the weather cleared up and we headed back down the grand spiral staircase to the lazy river pool for some fun in the sun.
This resort is truly stunning. I love everything about it from the architecture to the furniture to the chandy candy, but I am especially fond of the carpeting throughout.
Another fun aspect to “Cupcake Lovers Weekend” is the staff decorating contest. Each area of the resort creates and entry into the Cupcake Competition (well they are more like cakes). Resort guests fill out ballots to cast their vote for which entry they think is best. Votes are tallied and one Resort Department is declared the winner, but guests also get in on the action when one lucky ballot is drawn and that resort guest receives a complementary night stay on a return trip to Hilton Bonnet Creek. Here are two of my favorites from this year’s entries.
No trip to Bonnet Creek Hilton is complete without a dinner at La Luce, the resort’s signature dining location. I’m completely obsessed with this new Halibut Crostini appetizer they have on the menu right now.
Looks like flowers doesn’t it? The Barbabietole Insalate is a close second on my list. It’s composed of roasted beets, green beans, fennel, avocado and Roquefort vinaigrette.
My husband and I usually sit up at the bar talking to bartenders Tony and Debra. Check out “This Post” to see what elixirs they can make for you. Or opt for a dirty martini with maytag blue cheese stuffed olives. They are both well versed in wine pairings and can find the perfect offering to pair with your entree.
So next Summer around the second weekend in June there will be no need to wonder “Where’s Amanda?” I’ll be right here at the Hilton Bonnet Creek Orlando for Cupcake Lovers Weekend.
Hilton Bonnet Creek is located inside the gates of Walt Disney World. The resort is at 14100 Bonnet Creek Resort Ln, Orlando, FL 32821.
