I think I established a new tradition this month. Getting a full body massage after running 48.6 miles. Guys…you have no idea! I’m 39 years old and this is only my fourth massage ever. I think 2015 needs to be the year that I make up for lost time.
After a long run like a marathon or half marathon your muscles are sore and tight. This discomfort is a good thing. It means that your muscles are a tad bit torn down and your body will be building them back up just a little bit stronger and more efficient than before. Heading into the spa for a lengthy rubdown is going to help with muscle tightness and increase blood flow ultimately aiding in alleviating soreness and speeding up recovery.
Most of the races that I participate in are out at Walt Disney World. runDisney races are my local races. Hard life, I know. Even though I’m an hour away from the parks I often spend the night in a resort on Disney property due to the early wake up calls that running Disney requires. During the 2015 Dopey Challenge I spent two nights at the B Resort & Spa Lake Buena Vista. You can see my digs here: Review of the All New B Resort & Spa Orlando at Walt Disney World. The Resort is located within the gates of Walt Disney World on Hotel Plaza Boulevard near Downtown Disney Marketplace.
The day after I completed my four consecutive Dopey Challenge runs I visited the B Resort’s Spa for a sports massage. The 3,000 square foot B Indulged AVEDA Spa is full-service offering a wide array of massage, skin care, hair care, waxing and make up. Customized experiences and all-natural treatments are provided in their three treatment rooms including one couples room. Guests of the spa can also opt to order items from a specialty menu featuring fruit smoothies, fresh salads, infused waters and specialty sandwiches. Am I the only one who would like to drink a few glasses of wine before and after my massage? I’m sure they could make that happen too.
Day spa guests can utilize the zero entry pool and B Active fitness center before and after treatment.
Here’s a look at the ladies’ locker room.
The spa provides any and everything you need to get ready for the rest of your day or evening after a little pampering.
The real draw for my fellow runDisney runners is the amazing discounts that were offered during the race weekend. There were four discounted services for runners.
Body and Sole Therapy: 75 Minutes $139 (Regular $200) Full body massage that enhances the benefits of stress relief, decreases muscular tension and increases energy. Complemented with 30 minute reflexology to balance the body, restore sore feet, reduce fatigue and increase flexibility.
Runners Recharge: 50 Minutes $90 (Regular $135) Back body massage focusing on lower back, legs and feet utilizing Sweedish and heated stone techniques, foot reflexology and energy work. This treatment relaxes tight muscles, detoxifies, improves circulation, balances the nervous system and gently restores stagnant energy.
Brazilian Blowout: 90 Minutes Starting from $150 (Regular $300) Run and then look fabulous. Brazilion Blowout smooth frizz free hair in ninety minutes and receive a complementary make up application.
Sole Remedy Pedicure: 50 Minutes $50 (Regular $65) A calming experience combines the power of aroma, acupressure and foot massage to help you de-stress, soothe and soften tired feet. Nails are clipped, shaped, filed and polished to perfection.
I ended up going with the Body & Sole Therapy which started with a warm foot bath. Hello stabby marathon feet…meet mister soaking tub. Ahhhh. This was followed up by a full body massage where I imagined inventing an adult spa bib to catch the drool that must be present on the floor under the massage table from spa clients being in a total state of bliss. You can request either a male or female technician when you make your spa appointment. The masage tables were plush and warm (It was cold outside) and I especially loved the robe heaters. Nothing like putting on a warm robe to make your way back to the locker room.
For spa reservations and hours of operation you can call (407) 827-3111 or visit them online at BResortsandHotels.com. A complete spa menu with pricing can be found here. A 20% gratuity will be added to your service so keep that in mind and your parking will also be validated.
This is an amazing value when compared to some of the other spas on Walt Disney World property. I hope you consider booking a service after your next runDisney race. It’s a great way to celebrate such an epic accomplishment.
