Are you planning a cruise anytime soon? Will that cruise be departing from Port Canaveral on Florida’s Space Coast? Do you consider yourself a craft beer enthusiast? If so, I have a spot that you have to check out.
Welcome to the Florida Beer Company Brewery!
Florida Beer Company is the largest brewery in the entire state of Florida. The building itself is massive and so is its Tap Room. It used to be the Chrysler Space Operations plant so that explains a lot.
The night we stopped in (Saturday) the live music has just begun. I was also surprised to see families in with kids playing GIANT Connect Four and Jenga.
Once seated at the bar we had a fantastic view through the 100 foot glass wall that separated the tasting room from the brewery and we were able to see a few tours taking place. The bartender told me that admission is normally $10 but that you can sometimes find deals on brewery tours via Groupon. Walk-in tours are available every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at 2, 4, and 6pm. Plant tours require proper dress including no open toe shoes or high heels and safety glasses must be worn. Tours are open to those 16 and older.
Florida Beer Company started operations in Brevard County back in 1997 where it was known as Indian River Brewery and was located in Melbourne, Florida. In 2005 Indian River Brewery (Melbourne), Ybor City Brewing (Tampa), Key West Brewery (Key West) and Miami Brewing (Miami) morphed into what is now known as the Florida Beer Company.
Of course the real joy in visiting the tap room is sampling the craft beer being made in house.
FLORIDA BEER COMPANY SAMPLER
The brewery produces 28 different styles of ales, lagers and ciders. At any give time visitors will find 12 to 14 different products available at the tasting room. I was even able to sample a beer that was only available at the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival this past Spring!

You can get six pours for $9 and eight pours for $12. Beers are also sold individually in quarter, half and full pints as well as two pint crowlers. I purchased a couple of the seasonal Florida Sweet Oatmeal Stout crowler cans. The stout was of course the only beer I sampled that was not already pre-bottled for purchase.
While there is no food served on site you can grab a bag of popcorn from the bar in somewhat unique flavors like Sriracha Lime, Buffalo Cheddar, Jalapeno Ranch, and Sea Salt Caramel Key Lime Pretzel just to name a few.
The brewery opens every day at 1 p.m. It closes at 8 p.m. on Sunday, 9 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, and 10 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. Children are welcome when accompanied by a parent and as always you must be 21 or older to drink or purchase beer and cider.
