Old Hickory Steakhouse at the Gaylord Palms Resort in Orlando, Florida has to be one of the best themed steakhouses that I’ve ever dined at.
Located in the Everglades section of the resort, the restaurant is reminiscent of an old establishment you would find hidden way back in a swamp with it’s faded wood, rusty roof and neon sign with one letter hanging. Perched atop pilings that are anchored in the rock and winding waters below, the indoor, outdoor seating offers customers magnificent views of the tops of palm and cypress trees located inside the resort.
Nothing about the inside of the establishment screams swamp house grill however. Chairs are covered in fine leather. Tables are draped with crisp white tablecloths and set with perfectly polished wine glasses.
Starters
Each dinner begins with an assorted bread service.
After bread my husband and I moved on to pork belly. This was served on a bed of corn, beans and braised collard greens.
Entrees
The menu lists several cuts of beef, both wet aged and dry aged, as well as pork and seafood dishes. The cowboy decided on a ribeye with a side of creamed spinach.
I opted for a glass of Pinot Noir. Meiomi at the recommendation of our server. Yum!
…and I had to go with the short rib over gnocchi.
Dessert
There were many tempting sweets listed on the dessert menu but the reason that I was at Old Hickory Steakhouse was for the CHEESE!
Dear reader…if ever you are in Orlando and you want to go out for wine and cheese please hit me up. Old Hickory Steakhouse has a lounge area and we could totally make a meal out of it!
