The brand new Carnival Horizon is taking her maiden voyage today in the Mediterranean. While I wish I were setting sail on this brand spanking new Carnival cruise ship, I’m grateful that I was able to experience the craft beer offerings that will be available exclusively in the microbrewery on board the ship.
Back in January I had the opportunity to travel to Miami to board the Carnival Vista for a special craft beer event inside of the Red Frog Pub and Brewery.
It was here that brewmaster Colin Presby tapped the very first firkin of specialty suds that will be exclusively available inside Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse and brewhouse on the brand new Carnival Horizon cruise ship.
This quad of specialty brews includes Parched Pig Smoked Porter, Parched Pig Farmhouse Ale, Parched Pig Toasted Amber Ale and Parched Pig West Coast IPA.
I’m a hop head so I went in assuming that the IPA would be my favorite of the four, but I was actually luered in for an additional pint of the Parched Pig Smoked Porter.
Carnival Horizon will be making a handful of Mediterranean cruises and will re-position with a 14-day transatlantic crossing from Barcelona to New York City in May. In September she will make her way to Miami which will be her home port offering six and eight-day Caribbean cruises.
I’ll be traveling to the big apple in May to welcome Horizon to the United States and will be bringing you all of the action, including an appearance by Queen Latifah, who has been named godmother to the ship. Full ship tour and recap to follow.

Special thanks to Carnival for having me at this event. All opinions are my own.
