Cocktail Pharmacy and Pork Belly – Two Things I’m Looking Forward to Most on the Carnival Sunshine

What do you get when you take a world class cruise ship and sprinkle it with $155 million dollars in renovations?

You get the totally transformed Carnival Sunshine.

Next week I will be setting sail on a 2-night cruise aboard the Sunshine as it takes its inaugural voyage from it’s new homeport of Port Canaveral.  Port Canaveral is located approximately two hours from Walt Disney World and about an hour from my home so this makes cruising from this particular port a breeze.

Being the foodie that I am, I am most looking forward to checking out the brand new Alchemy Bar as well as Ji Ji Asian Kitchen.

The Alchemy Bar

The Alchemy Bar is an amazing concept.

Carnival has dubbed this watering hole a “cocktail pharmacy” where you can have a mixologist concoct you an elixir for what ails you.  I’ve been perusing over the “Mood Enhancers” listed on the cocktail menu and am intrigued by the possibility of the following:

MARTINI SEDUCTION – Stolichnaya Orange Vodka, red passion fruit nectar, freshly squeezed lime juice, and a hint of orange.

SPICY CHIPOTLE PINEAPPLE MARTINI – Skyy Vodka, Chipotle Pineapple Syrup, pineapple juice, simple syrup and mint leaves.

RESTORATIVE BASIL DROP – Skyy Vodka, fresh basil, simple syrup and fresh citrus.

You can see the complete Alchemy bar menu here.

Ji Ji Asian Kitchen

Ji Ji Asian Kitchen is an add-on experience for Carnival Sunshine cruisers. For a nominal fee foodies can don a pair of chopsticks and dig in to gourmet Asian fare such as Slow Braised Pork Belly, Chicken Spring Rolls, and Slow Braised Wagyu Beef Short Ribs. Are you salivating yet?

Ports of Call

We are also docking at Freeport in the Bahamas. I have been to Nassau and Paradise Island but not yet to Freeport. We have a beach excursion scheduled where there’s sure to be plenty of Instagram opportunities. If you’d like to share in my tropical vacation you can give me a follow over at @amandatinney.

My 2-day cruise departs on April 17th. I will be traveling with a group of other bloggers as part of a press trip. You can get each of our perspectives by following the hashtag #SunshinePortCanaveral on twitter, facebook, and instagram. For more info on the newly designed Carnival Sunshine visit Carnival.com.

My daughter and I are being hosted on the Sunshine by Carnival for the purposes of reviewing the ship. All opinions are my own.
