Anatomy of an Epic Girls Weekend at the Walt Disney World Boardwalk Inn {Day 3}

This is the third leg of our Epic Girls Weekend at Disney. You can read about Day 1 here and Day 2 here.

Checkout day is literally the worst! It’s like being evicted and housekeeping is the evil landlord. Thankfully, our request for late checkout was awarded! Ten points for Gryffindor!

We woke and decided to head down to Cat Cora’s restaurant Kouzzina because they have the best brekkie on-property. Super bummed that they will be closing their doors soon. I’ll have to get my breakfast food coma on at Boma in the Animal Kingdom Lodge or Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Wilderness Lodge from now on. Damn you change.

We didn’t have a reservation and had to wait like an eternity (25 minutes) for a table.  I ordered the Turkey-Sweet Potato Hash with two poached eggs and arugula salad. This is my go-to meal when dining here. The entree comes with a whole grain croissant and I always ask to be brought a side of mascarpone cheese to slather on it. A moment on the lips…a lifetime on the treadmill.

The rain had really cooled Orlando off and it was rather brisk on the Boardwalk after we polished off breakfast.

And now I get to utter those words that every girl should utter on an Epic Girls Weekend trip:

——-{SPA DAY}——-

We had each booked a 50 minute Balinese Massage at the MANDARA SPA inside the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort, which luckily for us was only a 5 minute walk away.

The last time I had a massage was at the Ritz-Carlton Spa Orlando in 2012! I know! Rediculousness!  Funny story about my only other spa experience. My first spa experience. It was on my honeymoon in 1999. My husband and I thought it would be a great idea to get a deep tissue couples massage on the first day of our cruise. For the remaining four days on the ship we waddled around like two penguins wrapped in duct tape. It was awful. I know better now.

Our time at the Mandara Spa put the Epic into Epic Girls Weekend.

This place is amazing!

I can’t say enough about the staff here. They made us feel right at home. Our spa appointments were at 11am and we stayed until around 12:30pm.  We had a 1:30 checkout so we needed to get back to the Boardwalk to shower and pack.

After we checked out and stored our luggage Susan suggested that we head over to Germany in Epcot for a proper beer.  That sounded fantastic. I figured I could nosh a little bit at some more of the Epcot Flower & Garden Festival Outdoor Kitchens as well.  When we entered Epcot from the International Gateway there were artists with canvasses set up outside of France just painting pictures.

Because I hadn’t gotten my fill of sushi at the California Grill on Day 2, I popped into the Outdoor Kitchen in Japan for a Chicken Temaki Hand Roll.

…and some fruit sushi…Frushi.

I was feeling a little parched and we headed into Germany by way of Italy to get that proper German beer Susan had mentioned earlier.

Is this the point where I tell you the joke about the Karamel-Kuche here in Germany? Must…restrain…myself…

Our girlfriend Carrie was in the park with her family and told us to stay put. She was on her way over to say hey.

After we finished our beers we decided that it would be a good idea to get a cronut. That’s a croissant doughnut which is friend and rolled in cinnamon sugar and let me tell you, they are life-changing!

We bid goodbye to our girlfriend Carrie and made our way back to the Boardwalk Resort to wait for my husband to pick us up in his redneck taxi. Since we had about an hour to kill, and we had picked up another girlfriend Gina, we staked out a table at the Belle View Lounge. This had been the setting for much tipsy girl talk on a previous trip where Susan and I had stayed a the Boardwalk. We had in fact made up a moniker for ourselves…The Belle View Crew. As a farewell kiss, we found a Hidden Mickey in the head on Gina’s beer.

And with cheers and a heavy heart we put to bed our Epic Disney Girls Weekend. #sadpanda

So as you see, Walt Disney World for Grown Ups can be just as magical in a big kids kind of way as it is for families. We didn’t even scratch the surface on all of the amazing adult experiences you can have at the Walt Disney World Resort. I’ll have more Epic Girls Weekend to report on when I travel with my friend Sarah to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge this September. Until then…
