This Summer my family and I took a glorious eight night cruise on the Carnival Freedom. The nice thing about longer cruise itineraries? More time to indulge in add-on cruise dining experiences of course.
The Sun King Steakhouse is one such experience. Dinner at Sun King is $35 per person and worth every penny. If you were to have the same meal outside the ship, it would run you around $100 per person. Here’s a photo tour of our amazing meal on the Freedom
Half of my dining companions received this amazing tomato amuse bouche while the other half sampled this salmon and cream cheese offering.
Ahi Tuna Tartare (Dices of Sashimi Grade Yellow Fin Tuna Belly) – There are some decadent “Starters” at the Sun King like Beef Carpaccio, New England Crab Cake and Lobster Bisque with Vintage Cognac but I always end up going for the tuna tartare every time. It’s THAT good.
Perfectly portioned Classic Caesar Salad (Hearts of Romaine Lettuce, Traditionally Prepared) – Glorious cheese, crispy hand cut croutons and just the right amount of dressing make this “Salad” a fantastic third-choice course.
Baby Leaf Spinach Salad (With Blue Cheese Dressing and Warm Bacon Bits) – This was my husband’s selection.
Spice-Rubbed Prime Ribeye Steak (18 oz. Rib Chop for the Real Beef Gourmet) I’ve learned my lesson when dining at Carnival’s many steakhouses. Save room for the meat! It’s so delicious and I tend to fill up on the first few courses. Not this time.
Dessert can not be overlooked at Sun King. This is the Chocolate Sampler (Bittersweet Chocolate Cake, Banana Pannacotta, Tiramisu and Chocolate Marquise) If you’re feeling full, this is a great dessert to order for the table. Each guest can pick the dessert of their choosing and have a sample size to top of their meal. If you have a little more room order this beast…
Cheesecake – This cheesecake is GIGANTIC and husband approved. Don’t like your cheese sweet? Opt for the Selection of International Cheeses.
Sun King has an amazing wine selection as well. If you’d like to score a complementary bottle of wine with your meal, book your Sun King dinner reservation on the first night of your cruise. Don’t forget the Dow’s 20 Year Tawny Port at the end of the night.
This meal is only available when you’re cruising Carnival. Right now Carnival is offering a Super Saver Sale which runs through December. Fares start at only $179 a night. To book visit Carnival.com or dial 1-800-764-7419.
Special thanks goes out to Carnival for providing me and my family with passage on the Carnival Freedom. I was not required to write this post and all opinions are my own.
