The Smallest Church in 48 States - Our Lady of the Pines

Lithuanian immigrant Peter L. Milkint must have had a sixth sense about predicting trends when he built his tiny church back in 1958. Now that the tiny house movement is sweeping the nation, a tiny church might not seem so out of the ordinary.

This one happens to be located in the foot hills of West Virginia and is as charming as it is meticulously maintained.

Inside, this tiny Catholic church holds six pews and can seat twelve…24 if the aisle is filled and standing room is taken.

The cross above the alter, candle holders, the old rugged cross at the foot of the alter and the fourteen stations of the cross to match the tiny church were all hand crafted. The infant of Prague in the red velvet garmet with gold trimmed lace was donated by a friend of the family and the alter linen cover was woven by a family member in Lithuania over 90 years ago.

Just outside of the church you will find Timpinogo’s Wishing Well.

Timpinogo was a Native American who lost her lover. Inside of the well you will find a heart. Timpinogo’s heart. The story goes that Timpinogo one day looked inside of the well and wished that she could see her lover again. Suddenly, there appeared his face beside hers in the reflection. Drop a coin into the fountain and make your own wish.
